While exploring Hakodate, we wanted to start our morning with a good cup of coffee. We were looking for a place that opened early—around 8 AM—had good reviews, and offered an alternative milk option. Luckily, we found a charming little coffee shop near Hakodate Bay that ticked all the boxes, including oat milk.
Arrival and Atmosphere - Diva & Ram Coffee
From the outside, the building looked simple and modern, almost tucked away in a quiet residential area. Stepping inside, however, felt like walking into a warm embrace. The wooden interior gave it a cozy, calm atmosphere, with soft lighting and small touches of Japanese tradition—like a stone lantern outside and tiny potted plants scattered around. A gentle playlist played in the background, and the subtle aroma of freshly brewed coffee immediately made the space feel inviting. The owner greeted us with a kind smile, adding a personal touch that made the cafe feel like a home away from home.
The cafe isn’t large—there are only a few tables—but the compact space adds to its charm. Sunlight streams in through the windows in the morning, highlighting the warm tones of the wooden furniture and creating a peaceful, intimate vibe perfect for a quiet start to the day.

Coffee & Sweet Treats in Diva & Ram Coffee
The shop offered a small but tempting selection of desserts—cookies, muffins, and breads. We decided on banana bread and a cookie to pair with our oat milk lattes.
Both the coffee and the desserts were excellent. The oat milk latte was creamy and smooth, with a gentle sweetness that balanced perfectly with the subtle bitterness of the coffee. The banana bread stood out—it wasn’t overly sweet, with a moist, tender texture that wasn’t oily, and hints of banana and cinnamon came through with each bite. The cookie was crisp yet soft in the centre, providing a satisfying contrast to the smooth latte. Together, these little treats created the perfect pairing to start the day.
The only “problem”? The coffee was so delicious that I finished it in just a few sips. A slightly larger cup would have been perfect!

Things to Know Before You Go to Diva & Ram in Hakodate
If you’re looking for a relaxing, warm atmosphere with quiet, local Japanese charm, this is a great spot. However, it’s not designed for lingering too long. The building is located in a residential area and wasn’t built for commercial use, so seating is limited.
If you want a place with a spacious seating area, a scenic view, or somewhere to chat for hours, the Starbucks in Hakodate Bay might be a better choice. At this cafe, once you finish your coffee, you’ll likely head out pretty quickly, especially if others are waiting.
Practical Tips:
- Opens at 8 AM, so it’s perfect for early risers.
- Seating is limited—plan to arrive early on weekends.
- The menu includes oat, soy, and regular milk options.
- Perfect for a short, relaxing morning break rather than a long hangout.
Despite the small size, this little shop is a gem. For us, it provided a peaceful moment amidst the excitement of exploring Hakodate. The combination of a welcoming atmosphere, quality coffee, and tasty treats made it a morning we won’t forget. Next time, I’d love to try their seasonal pastries or a different latte flavour.👉Tip: According to Google, the cafe is open from 8 AM to 6 PM every day.
