Minijumbuk Thermal Wool Quilt Review: 50% Off Myer Sale Bargain

The Nightmare of My Old Wool Blanket: Shedding and Bunching Issues

My new Minijumbuk Thermal quilt is in its box with the Myer tag

Even though my previous wool blanket wasn’t exactly cheap, it had a massive problem with shedding. To stop the wool from leaking out, I tried putting a polyester cover between the quilt and the outer cover, but that only made things worse. The layers didn’t stay together, and that middle polyester cover made a loud, annoying noise every time I moved. It was so uncomfortable that it actually started affecting my sleep.

I usually never take my quilt out of the cover, but I had to show this. You can see how much wool is leaking out and sticking to the fabric. Such a headache!

I placed a black non-woven fabric behind it to show the shedding more clearly. The stray wool fibres are everywhere—this is exactly why I needed a replacement.

Why I Couldn’t Even Wash It: Being a Considerate Neighbour

Because the shedding was so bad, I couldn't even think about taking it to a public laundromat. I once went to a laundromat and found someone else’s dog hair all over my laundry, and I didn’t want to be that person who leaves a mess for others. So, I ended up using it for two years without a proper wash, but I eventually realised I couldn't leave it any longer for hygiene reasons. That’s when I decided to invest in something high-quality that would last for years.

Scoring a Deal at Myer: 50% Off Premium Quality Minijumbuk

After doing some research, I found out about Minijumbuk, which many people call the ‘Hermes’ of wool quilts. I made sure to visit Myer with my husband before the last day of their sale to feel the product in person.

  • Purchase Price: Thermal (Queen Size) RRP $729.99 → Sale Price $364.99 (50% off!)
  • First Impressions: The 500 thread count casing felt incredibly dense and the stitching was perfect. Best of all, it’s certified 'Wool Proof,' so there’s absolutely no wool leaking out through the fabric.

The 500gsm Surprise: Lightweight Comfort Over Heavy Pressure

GSM stands for 'Grams per Square Metre,' which tells you the weight of the wool. Usually, 200–300gsm is for summer or all-season use, while 450–500gsm and above is for winter (Thermal). My old quilt was also 500gsm and it was warm, but it felt like it was crushing me because it was so heavy.

Apparently, the difference comes down to the technology used to compress the wool. The Minijumbuk Thermal quilt is surprisingly thin and light.

  • Actual Feel: At first, I was worried if it would be warm enough because it felt so light. But once I put my usual cover on, it gave just the right amount of gentle pressure and warmth. I almost fell asleep while testing it out just to write this post!

Easy Maintenance: Machine Washable and Anti-Bacterial Features

Even though it’s a high-end wool quilt, it’s machine washable, which makes it very easy to manage at home.

  • Washing Tips: According to the manufacturer, it’s better to use a large-capacity front loader rather than a top loader with an agitator to prevent any damage to the quilt.
  • Hygiene & Allergies: For people like my husband who suffer from Hay fever or allergies, natural wool is a great choice. Wool naturally creates less static, so it doesn't attract as much dust. Plus, Minijumbuk uses an 'Ultra-Fresh' treatment that helps keep dust mites away. I’m looking forward to much fresher mornings compared to using synthetic or low-quality quilts.

Thinking of Buying Minijumbuk? My Recommendation for Winter Prep

It’s only early March, so it’s not quite cold enough for the Thermal range yet, but I’m already so happy just to be free from the shedding nightmare. I’ll update this post in the middle of winter to let you know how warm it actually stays. I also saw they have a pillow range, so I’m planning to visit the store again soon to test those out and switch to Minijumbuk pillows too!

Minijumbuk has different ranges like Warm, Everyday, Cool, and Super Cool, so you can pick one based on how you sleep. Since they are premium products, I highly recommend visiting stores like Myer or Adairs to feel the texture yourself and waiting for a sale to get the best deal!
