When travelling, we often visit more than one cafe or restaurant instead of spending all our time at just one place. During our recent trip near Jervis Bay, we visited three different spots and decided to share a simple but honest review of each one.
Jervis Bay is one of the most well-known bays on Australia’s east coast and can be reached from Canberra in under three hours by car, making it a popular weekend getaway destination. The area is famous for its clear turquoise water and is surrounded by several beautiful beaches, each offering its own unique coastal charm. Because many visitors travel from Canberra for a short escape, finding good cafes and restaurants near Jervis Bay can make the trip even more enjoyable.
๐Just a short drive from Canberra, Cooma makes for a relaxing day trip. Explore local Vietnamese eateries and cozy cafes for a perfect small escape. On the way, stop by the Bredbo Christmas Barn and Pie Shop — note that the Christmas Barn operates only six months of the year.
๐If you’re looking for a weekend getaway closer to Canberra, Sutton is a lovely option with its charming bakery, Little Sutton Bakehouse, and the nearby village markets.
1.Earnest Arthur South Nowra – Pie Shop & Cafe Review Near Jervis Bay
Earnest Arthur is a pie-focused cafe located in South Nowra, near Jervis Bay. The menu is divided into Classic Pies and Gourmet Pies, and there is a good variety available. You can also check the full menu on their website before visiting. The cafe has enough seating with about six tables indoors, plus outdoor seating is available.

Pepper Steak Pie Review – Earnest Arthur South Nowra
- Made with mince-style beef, so there were no chunky pieces
- Pastry was crispy with a firm structure, making it easy to eat
- Visible peppercorn pieces throughout the meat, giving a strong pepper flavour
- Husband was generally satisfied with it
- Personally, the saltiness and strong pepper taste were overpowering, making it hard to taste the natural beef flavour

Satay Chicken Pie Review – Earnest Arthur South Nowra
- Had noticeable chunks of chicken in a creamy satay sauce base
- Pastry had nice layers and a stable structure
- Included spring onion pieces mixed through and peanuts sprinkled on top, adding texture
- Satay flavour was good in general, but in pie form it did not feel like the best match
- Personal preference may affect enjoyment

Ham sandwich - Earnest Arthur South Nowra
I think this one really depends on personal preference. I am not a big pie person, so I ordered a ham sandwich and only had a bite of my husband’s pies. The sandwich was average overall. The ham flavour was quite subtle, and what stood out more was the thick texture and slightly bitter taste of the beetroot.

2.Wild Ginger Huskisson – Fusion Asian Restaurant Near Jervis Bay Review
Wild Ginger is a fusion Asian restaurant located in Huskisson, close to Jervis Bay. We were looking for a place for Valentine’s Day dinner and chose this restaurant because of its good reviews. When we cannot decide what to order, we often choose a banquet option so we can try different dishes in smaller portions, and here we selected the $65 banquet menu as well.

There are around six to seven outdoor tables, and the interior feels modern and clean with a slightly hip atmosphere. The seating capacity is decent, but because it was Valentine’s Day and peak dinner time with group bookings, it was quite noisy and it was difficult to have a proper conversation.
Overall Food Review – Wild Ginger Huskisson Banquet $65
The fried dishes were not as light and crispy as we expected. Instead of a thin and crunchy texture, they felt slightly soft and a bit heavy. The spring rolls also had a thicker wrapper, so they did not have that sharp crispy crack when you bite into them. In general, the dishes were served with a generous amount of sauce. For the main dishes, the beef and the perch were both served in a coconut milk-based sauce.
 |
| Wild Ginger menu items – mixed entree: crispy pork belly betel leaf, smoked trout betel leaf, vegetable spring roll, chicken shallot mousse dim sum; the dim sum and spring rolls were dipped into the provided sweet chilli sauce (mint and lime flavor added), which worked okay, but the trout and pork belly were already seasoned and soaked in sauce, making the sweet and salty flavours too strong for personal preference. |
The sauce fully covered the ingredients, and the coconut aroma was quite strong, which made it harder to taste the natural flavour of the beef and fish themselves. My husband does not handle spicy food very well, and he mentioned that there was a noticeable spicy kick in several dishes. It was not extremely hot, but the heat was definitely there.

3.Fishwicks Culburra Beach – Brunch Cafe Near Jervis Bay Review
Fishwicks is a local-style cafe located in Culburra Beach, within driving distance of Jervis Bay. The atmosphere reminds my husband of an old Australian milk bar, simple and relaxed. Inside there are around four small tables, and outside there are one or two tables. Many customers seemed to be ordering takeaway. You can check the menu on their website before visiting. There is a parking space right next to the cafe, and it is very close to the beach, so the location is convenient.

Burra Burrito and Breaky Burger - Breakfast Menu Review – Fishwicks Culburra Beach
I ordered the Burra Burrito from the brekkie menu, and the balance of ingredients was very good. The halloumi was nicely grilled and slightly chewy, the tomato was juicy and slightly sweet, the scrambled eggs were rich, and the avocado was creamy. None of the ingredients were overpowering, and everything worked well together.

| Burra Burrito cross-section – moist, not too saucy, well-balanced, filling breakfast |
My husband ordered the Breaky Burger, and the sauce was slightly heavy. The structure was not firm enough to hold everything in one bite, so it was easy to spill while eating. If you prefer to taste the ingredients more clearly, it would be better to ask for less sauce. After finishing our meals, we were both very full, and the portion size was quite generous.

We noticed our usual oat milk brand displayed at the counter and ordered coffee with it. The coffee itself was fine, but the oat milk flavour felt slightly different from what we are used to.
✅ Who Would Enjoy Fishwicks Culburra Beach
- People looking for a filling brunch near Jervis Bay
- Those who enjoy halloumi and avocado combinations
- Anyone who likes a nostalgic Australian milk bar atmosphere
- Visitors searching for a casual and comfortable cafe near the beach
