Senka Perfect Whip vs Premium Whip in Japan: Don't Buy the Fake-looking PB.
Japan-Travel-Essential: Why Senka Perfect Whip is a Top Souvenir

These days, there are many foam cleansers on the market, but the original blue Senka Perfect Whip used to be a “must-buy” item when visiting Japan — even 10 years ago.
Senka-vs-Cosparade: The Truth Behind Don Quijote’s PB Premium Whip
On my most recent trip to Japan, I picked up what I thought was a special limited edition of the Senka Perfect Whip called “Premium Perfect Whip.” However, I later realised it wasn’t actually from the original brand. I had assumed it was just another version of Senka’s lineup and only later discovered that the original Senka is made by Shiseido, whereas the Premium Whip is manufactured by Cosparade, which is a private-label brand sold at Don Quijote (also known as Donki).
The packaging and colour are almost identical to the original, and the price is cheaper, so I think some people, like me, might have accidentally bought it thinking it was the original Senka product.
๐For those curious about the Don Quijote version I mentioned, I’ve shared my experience here: [My previous post on the Whip Premium]
User-Experience: Comparing the Mochi-Texture and Cleansing Power
Having used both, I can say that the cleansing experience is actually pretty good for both. They lather easily with water, produce plenty of foam, rinse off cleanly, and don’t leave any residue. I also didn’t experience any allergic reactions to either product.
The Premium Whip feels slightly richer and heavier, while the Senka Perfect Whip is slightly watery and lightweight, making it a little easier to apply and spread. I deliberately compared the two for this review, but honestly, the difference in texture is subtle—both perform well as cleansers.
๐How to make a denser foam: To get the most out of your cleansers, use a cleansing net (bubble net). It transforms the paste into a thick, marshmallow-like cushion, which reduces physical irritation on your skin —protecting your natural barrier from the strong alkaline formula. These dense micro-bubbles also help deep-clean pores more effectively, removing sebum and impurities without the harsh stripping feeling.
Ingredient-Analysis: Surfactants and pH Balance for Sensitive/Dry Skin
When looking at the formula, both products share a very similar base, but there are a few key differences in how they handle skin sensitivity and pH levels:
- Main Surfactants: Both products use Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, and Lauric Acid as their primary cleansing agents.
- For Sensitive Skin: The Premium Whip adds Disodium Lauroyl Glutamate, an amino acid–based surfactant known for being gentler on sensitive skin.
- Safety & EWG: According to the EWG database, the surfactants, emulsifiers, and moisturisers in both products are generally considered safe.
- Fragrance: Both contain fragrance. Senka Perfect Whip has a mild floral scent, while the Premium Whip has an even more subtle aroma.
- pH Adjusters & Potential Irritation:
- Premium Whip: Contains Potassium Hydroxide (alkaline). While it adjusts the pH, it may potentially disrupt the skin’s natural balance and lead to dryness.
- Original Senka: Uses Citric Acid. This provides mild exfoliating benefits, but it can sometimes cause irritation for those with very dry or sensitive skin types.
Buying-Guide: Travel-Size Availability and Final Verdict
Whether a product is “good” or “bad” really depends on your skin condition, so it’s best to try it out in advance. While the Premium Whip doesn’t come in sample sizes, the original Senka Perfect Whip is available in smaller travel-size versions, which makes it easier to test first.

Final-Decision: Which Cleanser is Best for Your Skin Type?
The Key Ingredient Differences:
Although they share the same base, the Cosparade Premium Whip adds a few extra skin-friendly ingredients:
- For Low Irritation: Includes Cocamide DEA, PEG-8, and Lauryl Betaine to buffer the strength of the surfactants.
- For Extra Hydration: Contains Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium PCA, and Allantoin for added skin soothing and moisture.
| Product | Key Features | Best For | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original Senka Perfect Whip | Deep & Refresh Clean, Citric Acid, Classic floral scent | Oily skin, Clogged pores, Deep cleaning | Most Drugstores (Travel size available) |
| Cosparade Premium Whip | Buffered mild formula, Extra moisturisers (Allantoin) | Light makeup, Budget-friendly, Gentle on skin | Major Japanese drugstores |
❗However, both are alkaline with a pH of 8, so if you have sensitive skin, it would be better to use a product with a pH of 5–6, which is closer to the skin's natural pH.
